Pitta Bread: How to make simple pitta breads

Step 1: Ingredients and Equipment

Pitta breads are very easy to make, you'll need some strong bread flour, a little olive oil, a 7g sachet of dried yeast.

  • 350g strong flour
  • 250ml warm water
  • 1tsp salt
  • 1x7g sachet of dried yeast
  • 2tsp olive oil

Step2: Mix the Dough

Mix all the dry ingredients in a large bowl and slowly add the water and olive oil to make a sticky elastic dough

Knead the dough for a few mins on a floured surface.

Cover with a damp tea towel and leave to rise in a warm place for about an hour or until the dough has doubled in size.

Step 3: Roll out and Bake Pittas

When the dough has risen, knead for a couple of minutes and divide into 8 pieces.

Roll each piece out into a oval shape and place a greased baking tray. Bake in the oven at 220'c or gas mark 7 for around 10 mins until puffed up in and slightly browned.

Cool the pitta breads on a wire tray.
